Fasten your togas for a high octane journey back to ancient Rome, to the days before political correctness. Welcome to a farcical world of eunuchs and scantily-clad virgins, randy hen-pecked husbands and erotic pottery.
Inspired by the farces of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus (251-183 BC), A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM tells the bawdy story of a slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master woo the girl next door.
The action is fast and furious, with a 30-strong cast of characters (accompanied by an eight-piece band) setting the 'Carry On' tone, even before the opening number has finished. With well-known Sondheim numbers like 'A Comedy Tonight' and 'Everybody Ought to Have a Maid', FORUM is pure musical comedy escapism - the perfect antidote to the present economic gloom.
